MVPE-CC Ethics Advisor completes monitoring visit to Kenya

Malaria Vaccine Pilot Evaluation-Case Control

As part of requirements for the conduct of MVPE- Case-Control Studies (MVPE-CC) in Ghana, Kenya and Malawi, the MVPE-CC Ethics Advisor, Dr Abraham Hodgson completed field monitoring visit to Kenya from September 26 to 30, 2022. Dr Hodgson was accompanied by Dr Thomas Gyan of the project coordinating team in Ghana.

The purpose of the visit was to provide advice on ethical issues during conduct of the study, check for compliance with ethical standards of research involving human subjects and review project documents. Additionally, the Ethics Advisor verified that the rights and well-being of the study participants were protected, the data collected were accurate and complete.

Field visits were made to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital, and three communities in Ndhiwa sub-County. During the visit, the team had discussions with study Pls, the project coordinator, project managers, Data managers, quality assurance officer, clinical staff, administrators, research officers and caregivers. Ethical and regulatory documents were also brought to a central office in Kisumu (KEMRI-CGHR) for review.

The Ethics Advisor was impressed with work done by the project team in Kenya and commended the team for the good work done
